Mama had knee surgery this week, and during her stay at the hospital, I headed out to grab a bite. I needed something quick, tasty & close (enough) by. Sunflower Cafe hit the spot! They are located in the Berry Hill neighborhood, near Vui’s Kitchen. (read about Vui’s here) , at 2824 Azalea Place. They are an all vegetarian restaurant, and they carry vegan cheese. I usually order the garlic mushroom burger, but this time I opted for it to be in a spinach wrap. It never disappoints! I also snagged the broccoli slaw for the side & a watermelon cream fountain fizzy (soda). Their menu is extensive and has gluten free, soy free, & oil free options as well.

District Coffee is located in the Design District on 2927 Sidco Drive. I noticed it one day as we drove through. It is run by a gentleman from New Zealand (their logo, per their website- the Pikorua, symbolizes the strength of friendship and interwoven cultures.)

They serve coffee, tea, pastries, hot chocolate, individual quiches, sandwiches, hummus with veggies and fruit & yogurt cups. They also have a dedicated office space where you can reserve to hold meetings, and they have free wifi.

Because I’m pretty sensitive to caffeine, and coffee has a tendency to hurt my stomach, any time I hit up a coffeehouse, I always order the chai tea. Today I ordered mine with oat milk (they have oat, soy and almond plant milks). Y’all!!! This was the absolute BEST chai tea latte I have EVER had!!! It was creamy, and rich, with a peppery kick in the back of your throat. I could have easily consumed a gallon!

Because the owner is from New Zealand, he offers their native Kawakaw tea. I was told that District Coffee is the only coffeehouse in Tennessee that serves it.

If you like chamomile tea, I think you’ll enjoy this. It has a slightly grassy taste, with notes of ginger & lemon. It comes hot, but you can get it cold. Also, they have simple syrup if you need it sweetened.

Oh Five Points! If you are looking for a yummy pizza, look no further than Five Points Pizza. They have two locations: In East Nashville at 1012 Woodland Street, and in West Nashville at 4100 Charlotte Avenue. They offer a wide variety of pizza, and have vegan cheese for dairy-free options (their crust is vegan too).

Lastly, if you love used bookstores, or want to get some good deals on used music, DVDs, games, or music instruments/equipment, check out McKay’s. They are located off of I-40 west, at 636 Old Hickory Blvd, Nashville, TN 37209. There is also one in Knoxville if you are heading that way. Got books, CDs or DVDs you no longer need? Bring them in and they will give you cash or a store credit. Jason & I always like going there.

I hope you’ve enjoyed week three in our Nashville summer series. Remember, it doesn’t cost much, and you never know what you will find. So get out, and become a tourist in your hometown!©
