Senior photos are about more than just capturing a moment—they’re about telling a story. For Emily’s amazing session, I captured her vision that was equal parts nostalgia and urban city iconic. Emily wanted her portraits to reflect the rich legacy and fond memories of her family while also showcasing the quintessential locations in Nashville, TN. We started on her family’s private land, surrounded by natural beauty and personal history, and then transitioned to downtown in the heart of Nashville, TN. The result? A stunning collection of photos that perfectly captured her personality and felt as unique as she is. Keep reading to check out Emily’s Private Land and Downtown Nashville Senior Photos
Our day started on her grandfather’s land, a place that has been part of her family for years. The backdrop was a large, old oak tree—an iconic fixture on the property that has stood through decades of memories, and weathered many a storm. Under the GORGEOUS, creamy, golden light of fall, the tree’s leaves created a vibrant mix of greens, with subtle oranges, and yellows, which gave us the perfect setting for timeless portraits.
Emily’s mom hung a hammock-type swing on the oak tree, and it was PERFECT for her session! Additionally, her cozy sweater, boots, hat, and mix of turquoise jewelry were the ideal outfit for this location, which, in turn, matched her personality completely! The warmth of the setting reflected not just in the photos but in the strong bonds between her family. During our time at the oak tree, an idea popped in my head, and I positioned Emily between a few low-hanging branches, only to discover (the hard way), the swarm of ladybugs that happened to be in that section! Whoops!
One of the sweetest parts of Emily’s session was capturing moments with her mom. Whether it was a hug under the sprawling oak branches or laughter as they walked the gravel road as they had done so many times before, these candid photos added an emotional depth to her session. Senior photos often mark a bittersweet milestone for parents, and having Emily’s mom join in for a few shots made the experience even more memorable for both.
As the sun dipped closer to the horizon, we traded the bright greens, soft diffused light, and beauty of the countryside for tall buildings and the cool, gray steel of downtown Nashville. Emily swapped her cozy fall outfit for a bright green, one-shoulder jumpsuit, with silver western belt, boots and a black hat. The tall buildings, Pedestrian Bridge architecture; a classic Nashville landmark, and Cumberland River added an urban vibe and contrast to her gallery.
After spending time atop the Pedestrian Bridge, we made our way down to Cumberland Park. Cumberland Park is an urban oasis of trees, walking trails, and eye-catching views of the Pedestrian Bridge. The trees, with their beautiful shades of reds, yellows, oranges, and greens, popped against the steel of the bridge, concrete walkway, and Emily’s green jumpsuit.
From Cumberland Park, we walked over to the Cumberland River area. Seeing the city from this level contrasts from seeing it on top of the bridge. Finally, we finished her session as the city lights came on, and the sun dipped down behind the buildings. I had so much FUN during Emily’s session! I love it when seniors incorporate their family touches as well as their own style.
Emily, I have enjoyed having you on the team this year! The style and energy you brought to your session was fantastic! I can’t wait to see all the amazing things you do, whether serving our country or helping save lives as a paramedic. I know you are going to do great things!
