At the end of May, I met up with Carter for a quick senior portrait session. I have known his mom for years, as we used to be co-workers. Carter has a few weeks at home, and then he’s on his way to Morehead State in Kentucky on a football scholarship. Carter and I hung out at a local park in Gallatin. Carter breezed through his session like the natural he was. We chatted about football (what I know could fit in a thimble and still have room), moving away from home, and college life.

Of course, heading off to college is a pretty big deal for the whole family, not just the senior (especially when you are moving out of state). Carter is leaving behind his sweet mama, dad, two brothers, and snuggly pup. I know there will be plenty of mixed emotions as they watch him head off to this next chapter. His parents couldn’t be more proud of the young man he has become, and it’s easy to see why. There is something pretty special about watching your child work hard for a goal and then get the opportunity to chase it at the next level.

Carter is excited to get to Morehead State, play college football, and see what this next adventure has in store for him. I have a feeling, though, that the excitement might wear off just a little when those hot July football practices roll around. However, this is the kind of opportunity that makes all those early mornings, long practices, late nights, and hot summer days worth it. His family already has plans to visit as often as they can, and thankfully, it’s not too far of a drive.

It was such a pleasure getting to photograph Carter’s senior portraits before he heads off to Kentucky. One minute they’re sitting around the family dinner table, and the next they’re packing their bags and heading off to college. I’m so glad we got to capture a few memories of Carter here in Gallatin before he begins this exciting new chapter. Good luck at Moorehead State. I know you’ll do great things!
